Core themes: Sex Education + Being Me

Our core 2017 theme was on the topical and needed topic of sex education. We amplified years of activism calling on the Government to adopt compulsory sex education into the curriculum. Four days later, the education Minister Justine Greening did.

A host of LGBT personalities spoke on our panel debates, including:

  • Evan Davis in conversation with Olly Alexander on his experiences growing up gay,

  • Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts hosting a panel on intersectionality with guests such as Jodie Marsh who spoke on her activism work with the Being Me Campaign.

  • Our Let’s Talk About Sex panel calling for LGBT+ inclusive sex ed in UK schools

Calling for compulsory sex and relationships education

Chaired by Attitude's Cliff Jannou, featuring Years and Years singer Olly Alexander, anti-bullying campaigner Paris Lees, National Aid Trust CEO Deborah Gold, Stella Creasy MP, Diversity Role Model's Gemma Curtis.

Intersectionality and embracing all parts of our identity

In collaboration with the charity 'Being Me' and hosted by Radio 1's Adele Roberts, featuring media personality Jodie Marsh, comedian Lewis Hancox, Straight Jacket author Matthew Todd, Black Pride director Phyll Opoku Gymiah and Nimmo singer – Sarah Nimmo.

Core theme: Mental Health

We descended on the University of Westminster in full force in 2016, setting news agendas with our mental health debate.

  • Will Young spoke freely about anxiety and his addictions
  • Jaymi from Union J spoke just days after his band mate George Shelly came out about how music industry officials had told them to stay in the closet
  • Adele Roberts called out the commercial radio industry which she said wasn't doing enough to make being open about your sexuality easy in on air roles

#OUTCOME exhibition

The project showcases portraits of LGBT people from a variety of backgrounds showing the 'outcome' of growing up, coming out and living life - their sexuality and gender haven't held them back. Now crowdfunded as a book, if you had your picture taken at our 2016 event, you may well be in it!

polaroized.png

Polarised short film

Polarised is an independent documentary about LGBTQ+ mental health in London. Through interviews, dramatization, animation and poetry, the documentary will look at the realities of life under austerity for many young LGBTQ+ people. The film will focus on the stories and the plights of those often suffering in silence on the fringes of the mainstream LGBT community, fighting homophobia, cuts and mental illness
