WE’RE BUILDING A NEW COMMITTEE

Our community not for profit organisation is created by students for students, and our committee is made up of LGBTQIA+ University students.

We need hard-working, enthusiastic, self-motivated, team players to join our student committee!

We will up-skill you, give you professional mentorship and access to unrivalled opportunities as you become part of the team that puts on the largest student LGBTQIA+ event in the UK.

We’re looking for current students who:

  • Have a passion for LGBTQIA+ activism

  • Will use their initiative and come up with exciting new ideas

  • Can work as part of a team and individually, completing any tasks thoroughly and efficiently

  • Are based in the UK and can attend meetings on Wednesday evenings in London / hybrid

  • Are free for the main festival from 11 -15 Feb in London

Whilst each committee member will have their area outlined below, all will be collectively responsible for the event as a whole, direction and strategy.

The new committee will start on Saturday 8 November.

Committee Roles

  • Social Media & Press

    3 Roles

    We are looking for 3 people for a media team to implement a social media branding strategy set by the whole committee with professional guidance. 

    The focus will be on visually-driven, short-form content (memes, reels, stories etc) that… 

    -Resonates with LGBT+ students 
    -Highlights diverse voices
    -Recaps past events and new content for quick updates and trends

    As a team you will work with multiple platforms including, but not limited to:

    - Instagram: answering DMs, creating content & supporting other members of team in liaising with external groups/societies 

    - TikTok: creating content & developing a strong brand 

    - LinkedIn: Professional networking and highlighting achievements within the LGBT+ student community

    -Youtube: Engaging shorts and longer videos using recaps and new content

    -Mailchimp: use newsletters for event announcements, community stories, and broader updates

    The role will also include press and content scheduling 

    -Press releases: Build relationships with Student and LGBT media and issue press releases for coverage of the event.

    - Yearly Calendar: Schedule content year round using our back catalogue of content, schedule for awareness days and university-specific events.

    -Monthly Themes: Focus on specific topics each month to build consistent engagement.

    - Current Trends: Stay agile with trends, especially on TikTok and Instagram.

    We’re looking for someone who can take initiative to create engaging content and is, preferably, comfortable on camera. 

    Through this role, you will develop: 

    1. An excellent understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community and what is prominently being publicised currently.

    2. Experience with copy or media/social media and preferably studying on a media based course or an ability to demonstrate skills in the area.

    3. An ability to craft compelling content through SEO, persuasive storytelling and data analysis to drive engagement across our various digital platforms.

  • Speakers & Talent liaison

    1 Role

    We are seeking a charismatic, proactive individual with excellent communication skills to serve as the Speakers & Liaison Coordinator. This vital role involves managing relationships with a diverse range of speakers — from industry experts to celebrities — to ensure a compelling and inclusive lineup across all festival events. 

    We’re looking for someone who’s confident in outreach, organization, and representing the festival professionally to high-profile personalities and their teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Research & Outreach: Identify and contact potential speakers, including celebrities, industry specialists, and influencers, using direct messaging, email, and formal communication channels with agents and publicists.

    - Coordination: Collaborate closely with the festival committee to select speakers whose topics align with festival themes and resonate with the audience.

    - Logistics Management: Arrange travel, accommodation, and scheduling for speakers participating in the main stage daytime festival, UpSkill career development sessions, and Friday night Awards ceremony hosts.

    - Communication: Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with speakers and their representatives throughout the planning process.

    - Event Support: Assist with on-the-day setup and coordination of speakers, ensuring smooth transitions and a positive experience for both speakers and attendees.

    - Representation: Act as a friendly, confident point of contact, embodying the festival’s values and promoting a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants.

    Preferable qualities:

    -Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with high-profile and diverse personalities.

    - Confidence in outreach and negotiation with agents, publicists, and speakers.

    - Previous experience in event coordination, talent liaison, or stakeholder management (preferable but not essential – we will have a mentor to guide you)

    - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

    - Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple relationships simultaneously.

    - Willingness to learn and a passion for the role

  • Production, awards & volunteer coordinator

    1 Role

    PRODUCTION, AWARDS & VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

    We are seeking a detail-orientated, organised individual to be our Awards, Production & Volunteering Coordinator. The role includes overseeing the logistics of our event production, planning our awards ceremony and overseeing the recruitment of on-the-day volunteers. 

    Key Responsibilities

    Event Production Management: 

    - Oversee the logistics of the event, including booking and managing additional elements such as Therapy Puppies, wellness area, and team catering.

    - Collaborate with staff members and mentors to liaise with venue management for all logistical needs, including risk assessments and set-up requirements.

    - Maintain an updated schedule and checklist to ensure all aspects of the event are covered.

    Awards Coordination

    -Assist in the planning and organization of the awards segment of the event, including collecting nominations, coordinating with judges, and ensuring smooth presentation on the event day.

    Volunteering Coordination

    - Recruit, train, and manage volunteers who will assist with event setup, operations, and breakdown

    - Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers, maintaining communication and ensuring they are informed and prepared.


    Preferable qualities: 

    - Strong ability to plan, multi-task, and prioritize tasks efficiently.

    - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel: Competency in using spreadsheets for tracking budgets, schedules, and other logistics.

    - Event Management/Production experience 

    - Problem-solving abilities: Quick and efficient in addressing challenges as they arise during the event planning process.

    - Willingness to learn and a passion for the role


    Previous experience is preferable but not essential – we will have a mentor who will guide you.


  • Graphics & Animation

    2 Roles

    We are seeking one graphic designer and one animation designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring fresh ideas, vibrant visuals, and engaging animations to help celebrate diversity, inclusion, and student pride across digital and print platforms.


    Key Responsibilities

    - Develop eye-catching graphics, banners, posters, and digital content 

    - Collaborate with the social media team to create content 

    - Design work will include posters and flyers distributed to universities and colleges across the UK, as well as adverts for partner magazines such as Attitude Magazine and The New Statesman.

    - Design assets for event branding, including signage, red carpet backdrops, bar fronts, staging, and exhibition displays.

    - Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.

    - Stay updated on current design and animation trends to ensure content remains fresh and engaging.


    Requirements:

    - Experience in graphic design and animation, preferably for events or campaigns targeting youth and students 

    - Proficiency in design and animation software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro).

    - Strong portfolio showcasing previous graphic design and animation work.
